About

Growing up on a farm seven miles from town, my creative juices got started early as a kid. I was always drawn to working with my hands and started making friendship bracelets and beading early on. I went to college at UW-Milwaukee and really didn't know what I wanted to do. I started taking generals and took a jewelry and metalsmithing class, and after that class, I knew this is what I was meant to do. It came easy, was inspiring, and the ideas for creating jewelry were flowing out of me. I graduated with a degree in Jewelry and Metalsmithing in 1999. I came back to Minneapolis and couldn't wait to get my feet wet, and put my skills to the test. I started working in a custom shop and then continued my career working corporately for over ten years. Looking back, each job was a stepping stone to what my heart was really craving in the bigger picture. My last corporate job, I was managing 5 other jewelers, doing all the custom, repairs, doing work for 6 other stores, having exchanges with the customers, and running a little business inside a corporate world. After ten years, this is when I got the nudge and knew there was something bigger that would bring me more meaning and happiness.  This is where Shimmering Carbon came into fruition. I longed to be in the meeting with the customer from start to finish.  I wanted to see where their vision started, and how we could build that custom piece together with something they would enjoy forever. I really enjoy the one-on-one process of learning about people and working with them so closely, and having the opportunity to unveil the piece that will make them happy for years to come.  Jewelry is an expression of who we are, it is a statement about our personality, which makes us all so different and unique. I can't wait to learn about you, and talk about how we can create that unique one-of-a-kind piece for you, and bring it to life.
